If I may, I would like to add the fact that in case governments ban bitcoin, some individuals might start mining it, which could theoretically cause a significant impact on energy consumption. Mining farms would have to be protected by militias, and tensions would escalate. Anyways, the outcome would be the same: bitcoin would continue to appreciate in value and gain mass adoption in a few years.
